Until Mr. Bah-Humbug walks in and says he’s reserved the last room in the B&B, which puts me back out in the storm.
It’s bad enough our mothers volunteered us to plan our home-town Christmas party (it was more of a voluntold situation, if you know what I mean), but things gets worse when the stubborn, infuriating, and unfortunately handsome, Marcus Allen and I end up at the same bed and breakfast after getting caught in the storm of the century.
Are there two rooms left?
Of course not.
Are there two beds in the remaining room?
Take a guess.
Marcus says he’ll sleep on the floor if I relinquish control of the playlist of songs for the party.
No. Way. Marcus’ idea of Christmas music is restricted to anything over fifty years old that you can nap to. I’m trying to capture the perfect Christmas atmosphere at the party which should include some holly jolly spirit, not a still, still, still snooze fest.
In a show of good will, mostly because I’m sure I’ll win, I offer a solution. We throw a Christmas Eve concert for everyone at the B&B and let them vote on which songs we should play.
Marcus’ harmonica skills are adequate—fine, I’ll admit he’s talented, and nice, and easy on the eyes, and even considerate to a degree—but I’m pretty sure my tuba and I have victory in the bag.
